Tomar is a lively town with the Convento de Cristo, the former headquarters of the Knights Templar, as an absolute tourist magnet. In the city you will find, among other attractions, supermarkets, boutiques, cafes and restaurants, petrol stations, a hospital, schools, and a technical university.

Lisbon and Porto are one and a half and two hours away respectively by car, the Silver Coast is one hour away; Tomar also has excellent train and bus connections.
